Hi all,
Today’s motivation comes from two sources, Jim Rohn and Mariah Carey:
“When you know what you want, and want it bad enough, you will find a way to get it.”
– Jim Rohn: Motivational speaker, philosopher, author
“If you believe in yourself and know what you want, you’re going to make it happen, make it happen.”
–Mariah Carey: Singer and songwriter
Have you ever seen a child who wants something badly enough? That child becomes the equivalent of The Little Engine That Could. They don’t stop at nothing until they produce the result they desire. Why is that? Could it be that some children just don’t know the meaning or even the concept of not being able to have something? Or is it because some children don’t take no for an answer? Could it be that children have a clear knowledge and understanding of what what they want and knowing what they want?
Unfortunately, when we become adults, that child-like spirit in us dies. Once we know what we want and discover that something is either hard to get or not to be ours at all, we give up. We chalk it all down as something that’s not worthwhile. I’ve seen this spirit in many adults at the ballpark that have to have a baseball. Instead of being patient and persistent, they’ll try a few times then give up. I’ve seen it in some children also. Yet, I find that when I coach the children and explain how the process works, they’ll usually hang in there until they produce the result they want.
What an incredible concept to carry into adulthood! That never-say-die attitude. To any adult that has forgotten that concept, we must rekindle that fire. We must remember that in part of getting what you want is knowing what you want. Many of the children that come into my section know what they want and therefore, it makes getting what they want a little less challenging. When you know what you want, that becomes the focal point of your focusing powers. When we consider the Law of Attraction, which I mention in yesterday’s blog, we tend to get what we attract and in order to attract something, that something must become the focal point of our focus.
For example, for sometime, I always wanted a baseball. I felt since I work in the game, I should have a keepsake from the game. I also wanted autographed balls of some of the players I know. Well, for one season, I focused and focused on getting a baseball. When I went to work, my thoughts were on getting a baseball. One day, my focus paid off. Today, I have nearly 15 baseballs in my collection and many of them are autographed. As we speak, I’m turning my focus on getting a baseball bat from one of the players. I tell people I have bat on the brains!
What do you want? Do you know what you want? If not, take the time right now and assess your needs and your wants. As you’re doing this, write them down, then be about the work of getting what you want. It can be something that is truly outlandish or something very minuscule. Whatever it is, it can and will be yours but you’ve got to know what you want.
Remember, knowing what you want is half the battle.
