Hello all,
Today’s motivation comes from Dr. Ed Hallowell:
“In order to do what really matters to you, you
have to, first of all, know what really matters to you.”

Many times at the ball park, I’ve encountered little kids who want baseballs. When I ask them why, they shrug their shoulders and say they don’t know. What’s more, when I agree to assist some them in their task, they run in the opposite direction as if something were chasing them. Then there are other times when these kids will approach me, wanting something from a baseball player, and they can’t pinpoint what that something is.
What this all boils down to is these children don’t know what matters most to them. They can’t understand why they desire the thing they desire most. They don’t realize what’s at stake here. For the longest time I couldn’t figure it out myself as I watch them run incessantly back and forth in my section at the stadium.
Overall, I believe that baseball is the thing that matters most to them but they don’t know it yet. They need to take a piece of the game home with them. What better way to do this through a baseball or anything that’s touched the hands of a MLB player. In that way, they will remember that specific game, the experience they’ve had and the feeling it generated.
I’ve often said that blind ambition is dangerous because since a person doesn’t know what they really want or why they want it, you can never tell what result you’ll get. In the journey to success, we must know what matters most to us and why we want it. Do you crave success? Why? Is it to have a better house, a new car, education for your children? Why do you want this thing that you desire and why does it matter to you?
When we know what we want and why it matters most to us, it makes our journey more thought-provoking…it gives the journey more credence. Once we get to our destination, we’re not likely to say “is this all there is?” We understand our purpose and the purpose of our journey. Knowing what matters and why allows us to stay on our path.
Do you know what you want and what matters the most to you?
