Today’s quote is a very powerful statement from Ralph Waldo Emerson:
“Your own mind is a sacred enclosure into which nothing harmful can enter except by your permission.“
— Ralph Waldo Emerson
Our mind is one of the most amazing organs in our body. Think about the fact it doesn’t weigh much yet, it is considered the center point of all our bodily functions. It is nothing more than a gel-like mass inside our skull yet, if we have less or more than we should, it throws everything off balance. Not only that but there are several sciences that dedicate their existence to studying the mind. Despite this, we still don’t know all the things the mind is capable of nor have we unlocked all of its secrets.
One thing we do know about the mind…it is like a fortress and nothing can enter it that can harm us unless we allow it. Things such as negative thoughts can only enter in if we let them. We must be very careful of what enters our minds, especially any and everything that seeks to control and destroy our minds.
Many times, we’ve heard the analogy of comparing a sharp mind to a steel trap. However, our minds should be like a fortress. What is a fortress? A fortress is defined as an impregnable structure that is used to protect its occupants from the enemy while a steel trap is just a contraption hunters use to capture animals. Traps are designed so that objects may fall into them and never escape, while a fortress is designed to protect its occupants from their enemies and to shelter them from the harsh elements.
Is your mind an impregnable structure to keep out negative thoughts or is it just a steel device to trap negative thoughts so that they can never escape? Is your mind a steel trap or is an impregnable fortress?
Which one are you?
